A book cover is often the first point of entry into a story. These covers explore how narrative can be translated into visual form through distinct visual languages and typographic approaches.

A Wrinkle in Time is a science fantasy novel centred around adventure, time, and discovery. Designed for a younger audience, the cover aims to spark curiosity and create excitement before the story even begins.

The design uses hand-drawn, sketch-like illustrations to create a familiar and engaging visual language that feels expressive without becoming overly polished. A vibrant colour palette reflects themes of time, space, and transformation, creating movement throughout the composition and suggesting constant shifts and exploration. Typography is integrated with the illustration to work as a unified system, balancing energy and readability while creating a cover that feels playful, dynamic, and easy for young readers to connect with.

In contrast to the playful and illustrative approach of A Wrinkle in Time, this cover for the book Night Watch adopts a more restrained and atmospheric visual language. The cover is built around a digital illustration that draws from key moments in the narrative, focusing on the central character rather than presenting a literal scene. Instead of fully revealing the figure, the composition suggests presence through partial visibility and controlled framing, creating a sense of distance and ambiguity.

A dark blue monochrome palette establishes a nocturnal atmosphere, with red used sparingly as a contrasting accent to introduce tension and guide attention. The restrained use of colour reinforces themes of observation and unease, allowing the cover to communicate tone rather than explicit detail.
